About the Series

The EVERY MOMENT HOLY series of books by Douglas McKelvey and published by Rabbit Room Press features new prayers and liturgies for the ordinary events of daily life. These prayers are ways of reminding us that our lives are shot through with sacred purpose even when, especially when, we are too busy or too caught up in our busyness to notice. The prayers are accented with linocut illustrations by Ned Bustard.

Collectively, Every Moment Holy has sold over 300,000 books across two volumes and five editions.

Volume I: New Liturgies for Daily Life was released in 2017 and contains prayers such as "A Liturgy for Feasting with Friends" or "A Liturgy for Laundering" or "A Liturgy for the First Hearthfire of the Season." Volume I can be found in hardcover, pocket flexi-cover, and padded hardcover editions.

Volume II: Death, Grief, and Hope, released in 2021, featured prayers for seasons of dying and grieving—liturgies such as "A Liturgy for the Scattering of Ashes" or "A Liturgy for the Loss of a Spouse" or "A Liturgy for the Wake of a National Tragedy." Volume II has been printed in hardcover and pocket flexi-cover editions.

Volume III: The Work of the People, originally released in November 2023, provides over 100 new liturgies for daily life, drawing on a range of writers, artists, poets, songwriters, pastors, and illustrators (with Douglas Kaine McKelvey both writing and editing). With prayers by Malcolm Guite, Ellie Holcomb, Philip Yancey, Ruth Chou Simons, Sho Baraka, Andrew Peterson, and more, this collection represents a community of believers engaged in the work of reminding all of us that our lives are shot through with sacred purpose and eternal hopes even in the midst of the everyday moments that make up our lives. The pocket edition will arrive in August of 2024.

In 2021, the Every Moment Holy App was released and is available for IOS and Android. The subscription-based app features free liturgies for sharing, along with access to the full audiobooks a subscription to access the entire collection of liturgies from the series.

Every Moment Holy has been featured on Christianity Today, Annie F. Downs’ That Sounds Fun podcast, Alistair Begg’s Truth for Life, the Risen Motherhood podcast, Biologos, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Rhythms for Life Podcast, The Crystal Paine Show, and more.

Every Moment Holy helps me to seek God’s blessing in everything from starting a new book, to setting up a Christmas tree, to marking a birthday. These prayers also help when words are hard to find—in a night of suffering, or after a house fire, or a friend’s death. It’s filled with biblical wisdom and beautiful writing.
